Breast Examination
Breast examinations are not included as a standard component of the body scan process due to several reasons. Firstly, women in Aruba aged 45 and above undergo breast cancer screening every two years. This screening is effective because it compares current breast images with previous ones. Experience has shown that a single mammography does not provide a reliable diagnosis. Additionally, mammography involves X-rays, and our radiologists prioritize minimizing X-ray exposure for patient safety.
Currently, relying solely on an MRI scan of the breasts results in a significant rate of false-positive outcomes, making it less suitable for clients without symptoms or a family history of breast issues. The most reliable and cost-effective approach remains a combination of mammography, ultrasound, or MRI of the breasts. Supplementary breast examinations can be scheduled at other affiliated locations.
Upon assessing risk factors such as family history and any symptoms, the doctor will collaborate with the patient to determine the most appropriate examination method. The medical team will exercise caution when considering the use of X-rays, potentially opting for an initial tactile examination and ultrasound assessment.
